GOLDEN OLDIE: The oldest footballer to debut in Spain's La Liga was actually an Englishman. Harry Lowe (born in 1886) was an impressive 48 years and 226 days old when he played his first and last match for Basque side Real Sociedad. Lowe, a former Spurs and Fulham centre half in the 20s, had been coaching ‘La Real’ for 5 years when one of his players fell ill before a match against Valencia. Back then teams couldn’t make changes so Howe decided to put on his boots and endure a 7-1 defeat.
