For the foodie: The coveted title of Spanish Gastronomic Capital 2015 goes to Cáceres in Extremadura, whose beautiful walled city is a Unesco world heritage site. Enjoy the locally produced salted hams and red wine, or sample some goats cheese, renowned throughout Spain. Cáceres is also famous for its stews, its Torta del Casar cheese made from sheep’s milk and migas, or fried breadcrumbs. As an added ingredient, the city also hosts the (free!) Womad world music festival at the beginning of May, giving you a unique chance to combine music and history with mouthwatering morsels in 2015.
