Overtourism is a massive problem in most cities and costal regions in Spain. Costly tourist rentals, by both spanish and foreign owners, have eaten the main residential housing stock and pushed up.prices of the few residential proprties that remain to ridiculous levels that few local residents can afford. The 1960 to 1980s philosophy of "more is best" no longer applies. Previously people many regions lived off tourism, but now tourism lives off them.
