Mallorca tourists caught using resident transport cards to travel for free
Drivers on the Mallorca bus network have noticed tourists travelling for free on public transport using resident travel cards.
This was reported to Última Hora by sources from SATI, the main trade union representing intercity bus drivers in Mallorca, after local party Més raised the issue in the regional parliament.
The eco-sovereignist MP Ferran Rosa raised this issue during a committee hearing with the Regional Minister for Mobility, José Luis Mateo, suggesting it could involve tourists staying in holiday homes whose hosts lend them a card to travel around the island for free.
“They board by covering the photo on their pass,” warned the MP, who claims this happens daily on certain routes around the island.
British sculptor Thomas Houseago opens first exhibition in Spain
British sculptor Thomas Houseago will exhibit his work in Spain for the first time in the Banca March Garden, marking the reopening of the garden at its Madrid headquarters to the public.
This is the first exhibition in Spain by Houseago, who is internationally renowned for his innovative sculptures.

Spain demands release of Iranian Nobel laureate
Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iran’s ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, on Thursday to demand the “immediate release” of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi.
Mohammad, who is being held in Iranian prisons, should be released given her “critical state of health”, as announced in Parliament by the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares.
The minister expressed “particular concern” over the deteriorating health of the human rights defender, particularly for women’s rights, and therefore stressed that “it is essential that she receives the necessary medical care”.
Spain summons Israeli envoy over 'intolerable' activist arrest
Spain summoned Israel's top envoy in Madrid to protest the "unacceptable and intolerable" detention of a Spanish activist from a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, the foreign minister said Thursday.
The countries' latest diplomatic clash came as Spain decorated the outspoken UN special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, who has divided Western countries and infuriated Israel.
An Israeli court has extended until Sunday the detention of Saif Abu Keshek, a Spanish national of Palestinian origin, as well as another activist, Brazilian Thiago Avila, snubbing international demands for their release.
On Wednesday, "we again summoned Israel's charge d'affaires to convey to her how unacceptable and intolerable it is to extend the detention of our citizen," Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares told parliament.
The Global Sumud Flotilla was the second initiative in a year aiming to break an Israeli blockade on war-ravaged Gaza, which has suffered shortages of food, water, medicine and fuel since the Israel-Hamas war broke out in 2023.
Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla in international waters off Greece last week, expelling the activists to Europe but arresting Abu Keshek and Avila.
