Another article that would be beneficial for the thousands of American retired citizens applying for the NLV would be regarding Spanish taxes on income such as Social Security, private pensions and retirement investment account withdrawals. There is a Tax Treaty between the two countries, but the treaty details cause some confusion. In practice, US citizens have to file taxes in both countries; as residents here but also as citizens as well in the US. I realize The Local can’t give tax advice, but reporting on the Spanish Tax Authority requirements would be a valuable article.
