Spanish Word of the Day: 'Traspié'
Traspié/s is not a word you'll hear very often but it's a great one for advanced learners to add to their vocab list.
Traspié refers to a stumble/slip, both in the literal, and figurative sense of the word (slip up/blunder). The word comes from the sustantive pie (foot) and by adding the prefix tras- the word becomes negative, like in other similarly structured words; trastornar, trastocar, etc.
Let's see it used in a sentence:

Se dio un traspié delante de todos. ¡Qué vergüenza!
He fell over in front of everyone. How embarrassing!
Mistake/blunder:

Un traspié les costó la victoria.
One blunder cost them the win.
This word is often used mistakenly in its plural form, but it should be used under the normal plural/singular rules.
