Spanish police make Med's largest hash bust this year
Spanish police said on Wednesday that they had seized close to 15 tonnes of hashish that filled a boat and arrested a Bulgarian and a Dutchman in the biggest drug bust in the Mediterranean this year.
The boat was intercepted overnight Saturday to Sunday off the coast of Murcia in Spain's southeast, and the 14.5 tonnes of hashish filled its interior, the Guardia Civil police force said in a statement.
"It's the biggest drug haul in the Mediterranean (Sea) this year," it added.
Police arrested a Bulgarian woman and a man from the Netherlands on board the boat, a spokesman told AFP.
Police were unable to say where the boat came from and where it was heading, but speculated the final destination "may" have been Spain, one of the main points of entry into Europe for drugs coming from North Africa, a key source of hashish.
