An agent of Spain's Civil Guard police force has been sentenced to prison for hitting and kicking his parents during a heated family argument.

The officer has also been given a 500 metre restraining order and won’t been able to set foot in his hometown of Martos in Southern Spain for five years.

The Jaén court heard how the aggressor “kicked (his father) in the back” and then “punched him in the face”, badly bruising his left eye.

He then pushed his mother around and “grabbed her by the neck while kicking her and slapping her”.

The Civil Guard officer, who has since been dismissed, denied all the accusations, Spanish daily ABC reported.

Medical evidence presented to the judge tied in with the victims’ description of events, leaving him in no doubt as to the final sentence.

The man has also been banned from carrying weapons for the next three years.
