A scientist from Barcelona's Fabra Observatory on Monday captured a stunning image of the island of Majorca as seen from the Catalan capital.

Meteorologist Alfons Puertas took the dawn photo from  the Fabra Observatory, which is at 412 metres (1352 feet) above sea level.

Barcelona's port is in the foreground while Majorca's Serra de Tramuntana mountain range can be seen silhouetted against the morning sky.

Clear skies made for perfect viewing conditions, as the distance between Barcelona and the Palma de Mallorca is over 200 kilometres.

The historic Fabra observatory is open for visits. It is still in operation with meteorological, astronomical and seismological investigations the focus of its work.
