Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has informed Spanish media that the build-up of traffic will begin at 3 pm on Wednesday as a result of the country’s summer working hours.
The official body expects the usual hold-ups on motorways leading out from Spain’s main cities.
August is the month when most Spaniards take their summer holidays, with 42 million journeys predicted over the 30-day period.
The DGT has advised travellers to plan their trip and have their vehicles serviced before setting off.
They also reminded drivers they will no longer be able to get away with not paying speeding fines they pick up in France, as the agreement between the two countries comes into force on August 1st.
