Unfortunate as it is, public life in Spain has been dogged by shady deals of all kinds in recent years. From allegations of illegal funding of political parties to more run-of-the mill bribes and backhanders to local bigwigs, news about illegal activity has become depressingly commonplace. ROYAL WRONGDOING: An offshoot of an investigation into corrupt dealings in the Balearics, the Nóos case has seen charges levelled at Princess Cristina and her husband, Iñaki Urdangarin. The latter is accused of using his connections to secure overpriced contracts from regional authorities for leisure events, the profits from which he later funnelled to his own family accounts despite his Nóos Institute supposedly being not for profit, while the princess has been charged with fraud and money laundering.
