Spain's victory at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa came after decades of pain, with blood, tears and dubious refereeing causing heartbreak for fans of La Roja. The Local takes a look at ten key moments in Spain's football history.
KICK OFF: On May 27th 1934, Spain played their first World Cup game in history, having not been able to make it to the first tournament held in Uruguay in 1930 because the trip took almost a month. They beat none other than Brazil by 3 goals to 1. Legendary goalkeeper Ricardo Zamora, the man who La Liga’s best goalkeeper award is named after, was also the first to ever to stop a penalty in a World Cup.
