Today's word of the day in Spanish is marcha, which can mean march, parade, progress or party.

Let’s see some examples with the word:


  • Me encanta ver las marchas militares.

       I love watching military parades.


  • La marcha contra el maltrato animal tendrá lugar este viernes.

        The protest against animal abuse will take place this Friday. 


Marcha also means progress:


  • Tenemos que hacer una reunión para evaluar la marcha de la empresa.

       We have to schedule a meeting to evaluate the progress of the company.


You can use to talk about departure: 


  • Su marcha fue inesperada.

        His departure was unexpected.


And also refers to a car’s gears 


  • Cambia a  cuarta marcha o se te va a para el coche.

         Shift down to forth gear or the car will stop. 


In a colloquial way, ‘marcha’ refers to party:


  • Esta noche nos vamos de marcha y saldremos a tomar algo.

Tonight we are partying and we will have some drinks.
