Spanish Word of the Day: 'Paisaje'

This is a word that Spain oodles of: 'Paisaje' means landscape or scenery.



  • Galicia es precioso, sobretodo su paisaje.

         Galicia is beautiful, especially its scenery.


It can also refer to a painting of a landscape:


  • Compre un valioso paisaje de un artista del romanticismo.

       I bought a valuable landscape from the romanticism movement.


This more specific meaning of farmland:

  • Paisaje agrario.



Here is a beautiful poem by Federico García Lorca, titled 'Paisaje':



La tarde equivocada

se vistió de frío.


Detrás de los cristales

turbios, todos los niños

ven convertirse en pájaros

un árbol amarillo.


La tarde está tendida
