VIDEO: Luxury ski resort burns to the ground
A €500 ($675) a night luxury ski lodge in Spain's southern Sierra Nevada mountain range was left entirely gutted by a wild fire on Wednesday morning.
Skiers could only look on as the wicked blaze, thought to have been caused by a chimney fire, burned the exclusive El Lodge resort to the ground within a matter of hours.
A total of 32 guests and 20 staff members were evacuated from the wooden building before firemen from the nearby city of Granada helped to put out the flames, Spanish radio station Cadena Ser reported.
Designed by British interior designer Andrew Martin, the Marbella Club resort has been left "totally destroyed", a hotel spokesperson told Ser.
"Fortunately, there were human or personal losses," they added.
