A couple accused of fraud after raising almost a million euros for medical treatment for their daughter Nadia and spending the money on themselves are now being investigated for suspected child pornography offences.

Fernando Blanco and his wife  Marga Grau were arrested in December on suspected fraud after raising €900,000 for their daughter who they claimed suffered a rare genetic illness and needed treatment abroad.

Now, police are investigating the pair for sex abuse after sexually explicit images of the 11-year-old girl were found on her father’s computer.

An investigating judge in Catalonia said new evidence “clearly shows that the accused (the father) sexually exploited their child” and summoned both parents to appear in court on Friday.

The case has shocked Spain since allegations of fraud emerged in December and it was alleged that the parents had spent close to €600,000 on themselves including the purchase of 32 luxury watches.

The girl’s father has been remanded in custody since December, while the mother is out on bail although she has lost custody of her daughter.

Nadia is now being cared for by a family member in Mallorca.
