Take a break from the beach and seek out some destinations that have appeared on the big screen. Here's our gallery of the filming locations you had no idea were in Spain.

It is not a massive stretch to see why many of Hollywood's most iconic spaghetti westerns were shot in Spain; the country's arid, sun-soaked south is an easy doppelganger for the Wild West of the United States. 

But there are some other films that might surprise you.

Who knew that the freezing streets of Moscow in Dr Zhivago were actually filmed just south of Madrid, or that the Japanese prisoner of war camp in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun was actually in Jerez, in southern Spain?
