A retired Civil Guard fired shots at members of his bride’s family during the wedding celebrations and then turned the gun on himself.

The 63-year-old, named Mateo, had reportedly pulled out his gun during the wedding reception  in the town of Bullas, in the region of Murcia, southern Spain on Tuesday evening and shot at two of his bride’s male relatives.

The shooting started after a furious row broke out between families at the wedding reception just hours after the couple formally wed.

The bride ran from the venue into the street and raised the alarm, according to local paper La Opinión de Murcia.

As a team from the Local Police arrived, the groom turned the gun on himself and killed himself.

Two relatives of the bride, who has not been named but is reported to be Bulgarian, were taken to hospital where their condition is described as ‘very serious’.
