Michelle Obama arrived in Spain on Wednesday, touching down at the Torrejón de Ardoz military base, around 20km from Madrid.

She is on the third leg of a trip to promote her educational initiative Let Girls Learn, which fights for the right of every girl in the world to receive an education.

She previously visited Liberia and Morocco, where she was accompanied by Hollywood actress Meryl Streep.

She will meet with Spain’s Queen Letizia on Thursday and give a speech at around 11am.

The First Lady, her mother Marian Robinson and her daughters, Malia and Sasha, were met in Madrid by US Ambassador to Spain, James Costos and his partner, Michael S. Smith.

The First Lady will return to the US on Friday, but soon after her husband will visit Spain.

President Obama will visit Madrid and Seville during a trip from July 9th to 11th.
