None of us like it when someone else changes the channel, but this Spaniard’s response was a bit extreme…

Most of us have suffered with annoying siblings, but one Spanish man has got to take the prize for being the world’s worst brother.

The Spaniard, from Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo in Córdoba, southern Spain, was sentenced to two years in prison on Wednesday for attacking his brother for changing the television channel.

The attack took place in May 2013 when the brothers - both in their thirties - were watching television in the family home. When one got up to go into the kitchen, the other changed the channel.

When the brother returned he "accused his sibling of changing the channel" and "tried to change it back" according to court documents quoted by news agency Europa Press.

His brother was intent on keeping his channel, however, and "punched his brother in the face, which caused him to fall backwards".

He then then "stabbed his brother in his right side with a 17.5cm blade".

The man was taken to hospital where court documents confirmed that "the bleeding was so intense that without urgent attention it could have put his life in danger".

Prosecutors originally planned to charge the brother with attempted murder, which could have carried a prison sentence of up to seven years, but revised the charges owing to the fact that the attack was "not life-threatening" and "did not touch any vital organs".

And as if being stabbed was not bad enough, the other brother was charged with abuse for punching his brother and must undertake 50 hours of community service.
