The invented life of a Spanish actress has been revealed after Spanish media discovered she had not actually attended the Oscars, but used Photoshop to place herself on the red carpet.

A web of lies spun by a Spanish actress has been revealed after a photograph supposedly showing her on the Oscars red carpet was exposed as a fake - reportedly photoshopped by the actress herself.

Anna Allen, who appeared in Spanish television series Cuéntame cómo pasó (Tell me how it happened) published the photograph across social media with the caption "Happy to be at the 86th Oscars".

But Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, who spoke to the actress after the Oscars ceremony, or so they thought, was the first to break the news that she had not, in fact, been at the Academy Awards.

"I’m surprised how many people work on the Oscars,” she said, adding that she had spoken to Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris "for a good while".

Reports in Spanish media say the actress' representatives were keen for the media to interview her after her Oscars appearance, as she was one of only two Spanish actors to have attended the ceremony.

According to Spanish journalist Álex Pinacho, the actress also uploaded a photograph of her Oscars invitation to Instagram, which bared an uncanny resemblance to the photo American actress Lupita Nyong’o had uploaded barely a week before. In fact, it was Nyong'o's photograph.

Allen took part in a photo spread for Hola magazine, in which she talked about attending the Oscars, unveiling that the designer of her Oscars dress would be Vicky Martín Berrocal, a renowned flamenco designer, who even published the news on her own social media account.

The Big Bang Theory

But the Oscars lie was just the tip of the iceberg. Once savvy social media users started digging, they saw that Allen had previously published a picture of herself with the cast of the US sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, in which she had photoshopped her head onto the body of American actress Summer Glau.

Allen even spoke to Spanish radio network Cadena Ser about her upcoming role. When asked in which episodes she would be appearing, she laughed and said she couldn’t say yet, but "very soon you’ll see me".

"It’s an absolute pleasure to be in The Big Bang Theory," she added.

She told Spanish Esquire magazine that she had worked on the US series White Collar with actor Matt Bomer, even chatting about why he turned down the lead role in 50 Shades of Grey.

The photo she published of Bomer and her was, again, faked. She had superimposed a photograph of her face onto the body of actress, Melissa George.

The story has gone viral on Spanish social media, with the hashtag #AnnaAllen trending on Twitter. People have likened the actress to notorious Spanish chancer 'Little Nicolás' who famously conned his way into the upper echelons of Spanish society, attending the coronation of King Felipe.

The actress even has the dubious honour of having her own parody Twitter page, describing her latest 'film projects' and all the famous people she has been 'hanging out with'.

Since the story broke, Allen has made all her social media accounts private and her representatives have refused to comment.

Meme mayhem

The story has also thrown up a million memes across social media, most featuring Anna Allen in other improbable situations.

It wasn't the first time Allen claimed to have attended the Oscars. Here is a tweet from March 3rd 2014, claiming to show Allen's arrival on the red carpet.
