Woman dies after falling into wine vat

A 25-year-old wine expert from northern Spain has died after inhaling grape fermentation fumes and falling into a vat of wine she was standing above.
Wine expert Nerea Pérez was watching the grape fermentation process in the industrial cellar where she worked in the small village of Salas de los Barrios when the tragedy occurred.
According to Castille-León’s emergency services, Pérez was probably overcome by the fumes coming from the giant tank of wine she was standing just above, lost her balance and fell in.
It was Nerea’s uncle Raúl Pérez who found his niece’s lifeless body, local daily InfoBierzo reported.
It is not clear whether she drowned in the tank or suffocated from the fumes.
The young woman was also the leader of the youth division of the Socialist PSOE party in Spain’s Castille-León region.
