Very few homes are truly fit for a king or queen, but The Local's latest property of the week — a magnificent castle in Spain's beautiful Basque Country — is grand enough to make you feel like you're living in a real-life episode of Game of Thrones.

A man's home is his castle, the saying goes, and in the case of Butrón Castle, this could hardly be more true.

Located 19 kilometres (12 miles) from Bilbao in the Basque municipality of Gatika, this landmark building is set to go under the hammer, but you'll need at least €3.5 million ($4.5 million) to make an opening bid in the auction which begins on Tuesday.

Your money will buy you a medieval castle which was completely remodelled at the end of the 19th century.

The home has total floor space of 2,400 square metres (25,800 square feet), while the grounds are a massive 35,000sqm. It's in great condition according to auctioneers BNP Paribas Real Estate. There's also the added bonus of snapping up the only Romantic style castle on sale in Spain.

The property boasts four turrets, an old chapel, a well with natural spring water, a parade ground and — of course — a dungeon.

For the more practically minded, the castle also has two bathrooms, a kitchen, heating, outdoor parking and a cellar.

Bids close on October 21st. For more information see the dedicated website.
