A Spanish animal rights group is suing a circus worker who left a bear tied to a lamp post in the middle of a hail storm while he went to a bar to have a drink.

The bear tamer and the animal were due to take part in a street parade in the Valencian village of Càrcer (eastern Spain) when the bad weather kicked in.

Village authorities had paid the man to make the bear walk with a music band and pretend to play the trumpet but, with the excuse of the weather, he chose to tie up the animal outdoors and have a few drinks in a local bar, online daily 20 minutos reported.

Animal rights group FAADA has released a photo of the disoriented bear and announced it will take the matter to the Spanish Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service.

According to FAADA, the bear tamer left the bar drunk and “mistreated” and pulled the animal’s leash in an aggressive manner when he untied him.
