HBO confirmed the positive news on Wednesday, following on from comments by US ambassador to Spain James Costos on Tuesday that the shoot would go ahead.

Experts estimate Game of Thrones could generate €100 million ($137 million) for Seville’s economy and create up to 6,000 new jobs.

Costos, former Vice President of HBO, may have pulled a few strings to get the southern Spanish city 'the part'.

So far, Seville’s Alcázar royal palace, originally a Moorish fort dating back to the 1300s, has been chosen to serve as the Water Gardens of Dorne (from where Prince Oberyn Martell hails).

Other spots around the Andalusian capital are also likely to feature.

But what about other fairy-tale locations across Spain? Couldn’t they also be part of the hit HBO series in future seasons?

Check out The Local's list of the top ten Spanish locations to shoot Game of Thrones.
