NBA ‘bad boy’ Lamar Odom to play in Spain

Two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom has joined Spanish side Laboral Kutxa Baskonia on a two-month deal as he finishes his stint in rehab following a drink driving incident.

Odom has played over 1,000 games over a 14-year career in the NBA, but has been a free agent since the end of last season after being released by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Baskonia, currently ninth in the 18-team Spanish Liga Endesa, have the option to extend the deal until the end of the season.

Odom played a key role on the Los Angeles Lakers side that won back-to-back NBA titles in 2009 and 2010, but has struggled to hold down a roster spot since leaving the Lakers the following year.

The 34-year-old power forward has also endured a troubled time off the court as he was sentenced in December to three years probation and three months of treatment for alcohol abuse for driving under the influence and split from reality TV star wife Khloe Kardashian.

Spanish big man Gasol to join Chicago Bulls

Spanish star Pau Gasol, a free agent center who won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, announced Saturday that he will join the Chicago Bulls next season.

Gasol has averaged 18.3 points and 9.2 rebounds while connecting on 51 percent of his shots in his NBA career for the Lakers and Memphis.

His arrival helps boost the chances of the Bulls to become a title contender despite the nagging injury problems that have hampered playmaker Derrick Rose the past several seasons.

"It hasn't been easy," Gasol tweeted. "After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career."

Gasol also was courted by the reigning NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

The Bulls might have to make other moves before signing Gasol due to NBA salary cap restrictions.

No word was indicated on how long or rich a deal Gasol might have.

But his signing does appear to drive the final nail in any notion that New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony might sign with the Bulls rather than remain in New York with a team that failed to make the playoffs last season.

Gasol helped Spain capture the silver medal at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, both times falling to the US collection of NBA stars in the final.
