Who bags Spain's top public pay cheques?
After King Juan Carlos revealed last week the salaries of his closest family members, The Local has tracked down Spain's other big earners to find out who takes home the country's top taxpayer-funded public paycheques.
Perhaps stung by Spain's rising reputation for institutional corruption and financial skulduggery, the King's publication of the fixed salaries paid to his wife, Queen Sofia, and his daughter-in-law Princess Letizia was an unprecedented step towards transparency. It may come as no surprise to discover that the Royal Family are among the country's top earners. Not everyone who earns a pile of public euros is a well-known name or face.
