A publishing firm headed up by a Spanish archbishop has released a translation of an Italian book which tells women to "get married and be submissive".

The book by Italian mother of four Costanza Miriano preaches a message of "loyal obedience, generosity and submission" on the part of women.

Cásate y sé sumisa (Get Married and Be Submissive) is about "being open to life" and "living sex as a gift of God", says Miriano on her website.

This is the Italian author's second book. Both have been translated into several languages and they have seen combined sales of 70,000 in Italy.

Now a publishing firm headed up by the Archbishop of the Spanish city of Granada, Javier Martínez, has published Miriano's tome in Spanish.

It's all about promoting the cultural dignity of the faith, says the publisher Nuevo Inicio (New Beginning) on its homepage.

Copies of the book are available for €16 ($21).

The books is based on the teachings of St Paul, says the author in her blog.

"Women should try to be submissive, writes Paul," says Miriano

"I think it means they have to be open, warm, patient, not because they are weak, but, on the contrary, because they are strong and stable, soft and comfortable".

"Women who are in touch with their deep nature are shiny happy. They can give life, biologically and spiritually," Miriano adds.
