Police in the Catalan city of Badalona have arrested three wholesale workers who were selling handbags with knuckledusters attached to the handles.

Barcelona police’s weapons and explosives unit has seized 825 handbags and purses with brass knuckles attached to the handles, online daily El Periodico reported on Wednesday.

A variety of models, some of them with metal spikes, were readily available in the Chinese-owned wholesale stores.

Similar incidences have been reported over the past few months in Barcelona, Tarragona, Salou and Cambrils.

Knuckledusters are illegal in Spain as in most countries across Europe, carrying significant jail sentences and fines for possession of a dangerous weapon.

In 2010, fashion house Alexander McQueen launched a controversial line of Hell's Angels Knuckleduster Box clutch handbags, prompting the notorious motorcycle club to file a lawsuit against the company for misusing their trademark.
