The man, who goes by the name of Derrick Arthur Rose on the popular social networking site, used three pictures of mayor Josep Felix Ballesteros as a means of picking up more women online.
His fictitious profile also stated he was a mechanical engineer from Dublin living in London.
The mystery man was caught out a few days ago when a Catalan woman living in the UK spotted the fake profile and alerted Tarragona’s town hall.
Once the mayor of the Catalan town found out, he called up Facebook to ask for the Casanova's profile to be taken down.
Sources for Tarragona’s town hall told The Local Ballesteros was shocked by the news and concerned by how easy it was for personal information to be filtered.
But an interview with national radio station Cadena SER on Wednesday shows Ballesteros is now seeing the funny side to it.
“I was walking in the supermarket with my wife and several people came up to me,” he told Cadena Ser. “ I was expecting the usual : put a bench here, fix this lamppost, sort out that pavement. But all three just wanted to pull my leg about the fake Facebook profile.”
