Breaking Bad-style speed chef arrested
A 65-year-old pharmacy teacher has been arrested along with 14 people in raids against a gang that allegedly produced speed in Spain's Zamora and Salamanca provinces, in a case with similarities to the hit US television show Breaking Bad.
The university teacher with advanced chemistry knowledge was responsible for "cooking" the drugs, according to regional authorities.
He has been arrested along with 13 others on drug charges including production and trafficking of drugs.
A raid on the cook's laboratory uncovered a full storehouse of chemicals and a battery of equipment needed to produce speed including camping stoves and gas masks.
The story bears similarities to that of Walter White, the main character of the successful US television show Breaking Bad, about a high school chemistry teacher who starts producing crystallized methamphetamine to support his family after he learns he has lung cancer.
